Show Title/Theme: Future Fate

Future Fate explores the tension between choice and inevitability - the paths we create, the futures we imagine, and the unknown forces that shape who we become and the lives that we live.

This theme invites choreographers to imagine worlds ahead of us: futuristic, emotional, dystopian, hopeful, personal, or abstract. Through movement, we ask: Are we in control of our future or are we moving toward a fate already written? Whether your vision is bold and cinematic or intimate and raw, Common Ground - Future Fate is an opportunity to push creative boundaries and bring your interpretation of the future to life on stage.

- WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR -

We encourage choreographers of advanced/professional level to submit. Choreographers should have a minimum of 5–10 years of dance training, performing, and/or choreographing experience in ballet, jazz, tao, lyrical, contemporary/modern, hip hop, and/or commercial dance.

We hope to showcase high-quality choreography and a range of different genres and concepts. Choreographers are free to choose the dance genre and music, as long as they are inspired by this year's theme, Future Fate. Up to two choreographers may collaborate on a piece.

  • Dancers must be 16 years of age or older.

  • Minors will have designated areas available to them during the show.

  • Pieces may have 2–15 dancers on stage.

  • All performers are limited to appearing in a maximum of 3 pieces.

  • Final choreographed pieces must be between 2.5 and 4 minutes in length.

Audio/Visual: We are planning improvements to increase the production value of the show. We are looking into having an LED screen at the back of the stage and providing more professional lighting. We are hiring a new photo/video company for this year's event to ensure timely delivery of assets. This company is well versed in filming dance, and choreographers will have access to these assets after the show.

Stage Dimensions:

  • 26 feet wide at the front of the stage (within the speakers)

  • 16 feet from the front of the stage to the back

  • The stage tapers in toward the back to 14.5 feet wide

We are also looking into extending the stage approximately 8 feet forward and 15 feet wide. We will confirm whether this stage extension will be available in early July.

Stage Access: On/off stage right only, near the front of the stage.

We understand the great time and effort it takes to create and perform a piece. We sincerely appreciate your interest in contributing to this event!
